We are currently facing an unprecedented crisis in the UK
with the Covid-19 pandemic and the frontline NHS Staff
who are working to fight against the virus are short of PPE
equipment including face shields, masks and gloves.
We're on a mission to produce
face shields to help shield our NHS!

Working to Supply Our NHS with Face Shields

We are a team of medics, engineers and designers from across London, Imperial College, Royal College of Art, Cambridge Judge Business School and Oxford working on an entirely voluntary basis for no profit to address the national shortage of face shields.

Our mission is simple: we need to do everything we can to help the NHS frontline staff to stay safe and protect their patients.

The Badger Shield by Delve

We have been lucky to receive support from US company Delve, who have designed the Badger Shield, a simple, scalable and safe solution we need in this crisis. The design is open-source and free for anyone to use.

Save Lives and Protect Frontline Staff

Face shields, masks and other PPE play an important role in protecting frontline hospital workers against infectious diseases.

Though little research has so far been carried out on the transmission of Covid-19, research on other infectious diseases suggests that masks, face shields and gloves are crucial for the fight against the new Coronavirus.

92%

*Based on official UK guidance released in February 2020 that references a 2017 review of trials largely looking at the transmission of seasonal influenza viruses.

**Based on results obtained from a study titled “Efficacy of face shields against cough aerosol droplets from a cough simulator” by Lindsley et al. in 2014.

Why Face Shields Are Crucial For Our NHS

They Protect The Mucous Membranes

Face shields provide a protective barrier across the facial area, helping to shield against transmission of droplets expressed via coughs and sneezes of infected patients into the mucous membranes, i.e the eyes, nose and mouth.

They Keep More NHS Staff On The Frontline

Covid-19 is a new strain of virus that we’re all vulnerble to catching, including our frontline NHS workers. The better protected our healthcare workers are, the more healthcare workers there will be on the frontline, ready to fight Covid-19!

They Help To Protect Hospital Patients

Protecting our healthcare workers against Covid-19 helps to protect the hospital patients they come into contact with too, hence helping to further reduce the spread and transmission of this virus and keep patients safe.

They Will Help Reduce The Pressure On Our NHS

By helping to reduce the spread of Covid-19 between healthcare workers, their patients, families and others they come into contact with, we will be reducing the overall spread of the virus and thus helping to reduce the pressure on our NHS.

Our Mission So Far

Let’s help get these numbers up and save as many people from Covid-19 as possible. With your help we can make more shields, protect more frontline NHS staff and save more lives.
